On her look: “I love stripper shoes and I always try to find the tallest ones. I’m always surprised no one talks about my shoes. I’m, like, on stage in 15-inch heels but people talk more about my eye make-up, which has stayed the same forever. I always think that’s funny. I’m 5’8”. So I’m really tall.”

On her ideal guy: “I don’t like guys who overdress. And I don’t like guys who try too hard. My biggest thing is be yourself. Be yourself and if people don’t like you, then they can suck a d*ck. If they don’t like you, then they’re not the type of person you should be around. I don’t like people who pretend to be something to fit into a certain crowd or guys who pay more attention to how they look than you do – that’s not a good thing.”

On fronting a rock band: “It’s awesome. They’re like my best friends. We have the best chemistry. There’s never a bad day and I love it. It’s like, you know, living the dream. That sounds so contrived, but it’s true. Most of my favourite bands are from England. You guys have the best bands. The Beatles, Zeppelin, The Who, you have frickin’ all of them! America loses there. We still have a couple of good ones, but you guys have the greats.”

ACTA - 'The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement' is a proposed plurilateral agreement for the purpose of establishing international standards on intellectual property rights enforcement in Europe.

ACTA would establish a new international legal framework that would create its "own governing body outside existing international institutions" such as - the World Trade Organization (WTO), the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) or the United Nations.


An open letter signed by many organizations, including Consumers International, EDRi (27 European civil rights and privacy NGOs), the Free Software Foundation (FSF), the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF), ASIC (French trade association for web 2.0 companies), and the Free Knowledge Institute (FKI), states that "the current draft of ACTA would profoundly restrict the fundamental rights and freedoms of European citizens, most notably the freedom of expression and communication privacy."

Pixomondo Crafts Magical Effects for Hugo

Drawing inspiration from the blocky credits George Mélièsused for his silent films, Randy Balsmeyer, owner and creative director of Big Film Design, collaborated with Martin Scorsese on the Hugo main title sequence. Balsmeyer updated the design into brushed metal lettering to evoke the clockworks in the film, pushed some elements of the titles into deep 3D space, and floated golden stars in front of the screen.

“We ended up with the main title flying from behind the audience into the screen,” Balsmeyer says, “something that all the rules of 3D say you can’t do.”

The left- and right-eye pairs of three-dimensional lettering were created using Maxon Cinema 4D, then brought into Adobe After Effects for final convergence and compositing with 2D elements.

Visual effects company Pixomondo completed more than 800 shots for Martin Scorsese’s 3D epic adventure Hugo. The project utilized 10 of Pixomondo’s facilities to create a global pipeline.

Combining sets, miniatures, matte paintings and digital effects to evoke the look of Paris re-imagined on a 1930s film set, Hugo is a love letter to classic cinema and cinema history, with stop-motion animation, time lapses, morphs and stereo transitions, flipbook animation, and motion-captured and hand-animated CG characters.

“Marty has encyclopedic knowledge of cinema history,” says Pixomondo VFX supervisor Ben Grossmann, “and working with him on a project that used the dawn of filmmaking as a foundation was incredibly inspiring.”

Ingenuity Engine Servers Up Effect For Harold & Kumar

Ingenuity Engine helped create a series of self-aware 3D gags and over-the-top visuals for A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas. The company developed 125 visual effects shots—everything from a flaming Christmas tree exploding out of a window to a CG robot drumline.

Because camera metadata was not recorded on set, VFX supervisors David Lebensfeld and Grant Miller developed a tool to preview the stereo depth of visual effects shots using proxy geometry in The Foundry’s Nuke compositor. Using NVIDIA’s 3D Vision for stereo review on their existing Quadro-equipped workstations, artists could accurately match the depth in the live-action plates in an interactive preview.

The stereo camera and geometry were then transferred from Nuke to Autodesk 3ds Max animation software for final rendering.

Mayor Boris Johnson said it was a fitting way to mark the start of an extraordinary year for the city which will host the Olympic Games.

The Mayor of London's office said the display was the result of 12 months of planning. A crew of 306 has been working on the site since Boxing Day, with 1,803 staff - including stewards - on duty on the night itself.

There were 30 tonnes of equipment on the three fireworks barges on the river ready for the display, which was triggered by GPS to the chimes of Big Ben.

The start of the London fireworks was accompanied by a recording of the moment the capital learned it would host next summer's Olympic and Paralympic Games.

What are you doing on New Year's Eve? Whatever it is, it's probably not as cool as hanging out with offscreen BFFs Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel. The "(500) Days of Summer" stars teamed up and recorded a new duet for Zooey's website, HelloGiggles, and it's basically the most adorable thing we've seen all week.

The duo covered Nancy Wilson's classic "What Are You Doing New Year's Eve" in a low-production video posted to YouTube. Ever since JGL joined ZD in She & Him's "Why Do You Let Me Stay Here" music video, we've been obsessing about their mutual exploits off screen as well as on. We've been crossing our fingers for them to team up again onthe big screen, but the closest we've gotten is their hilarious Cinemash of "Sid and Nancy."

As Zooey explains in her short blog post accompanying the video, she and Joe have been friends since they first met in 2000 while filming the movie "Manic." They went on to star in the 2009 rom-com "(500) Days of Summer," and have just generally been endearing to us all ever since.



"We bonded over a mutual appreciation for Harry Nilsson and Nina Simone, and I have been lucky enough to call him one of my dearest friends ever since," Zooey wrote. "When we did '500 Days of Summer' eight years later, we spent every lunch hour dancing to Marvin Gaye in the hair and makeup trailer. We had loads of fun. I hope to do a thousand more movies with him, because he’s simply the best."

Video of Devil Hidden in the Clouds in Giotto Arts

Art restorers have discovered the figure of a devil, hidden in the clouds of one of the most famous frescos by Giotto in the Basilica of St Francis in Assisi.

The devil was hidden in the details of clouds in the cycle of the scenes in the life and death of St Francis painted by Giotto in the 13th century. The discovery was made by Italian art historian Chiara Frugone where a profile of a figure with a hooked nose, a sly smile, and dark horns hidden among the clouds in the panel of the scene depicting the death of St Francis.

The chief restorer of the basilica, said Giotto probably never wanted the image of the devil to be a main part of the fresco and may have painted it in among the clouds.

The master may have painted it to spite someone he knew by portraying him as a devil in the painting, according to Fusetti. The artwork in the basilica in the convent where St Francis is buried was last restored after it was damaged by an earthquake in 1997.

Geoffrey Mutai Breaks Marathon World Record 2:03:02

The New York marathon Geoffrey Mutai has breaking world record. Kenya 30 years, ran 2:03:02, beating the previous record of 2 minutes and 37 seconds. Mutai won the Boston Marathon earlier this year and set the record for this race too. If you read this, Geoffrey, congratulations! If you are not Geoffrey Mutai, return to work, the provision failed.
